Graduate Nurse Program
Flinders Private Hospital offers a Graduate Nursing Program designed to assist Graduates in their Transition to Professional Practice. This program is available to new Registered / Enrolled Nurses and it aims to:
- Assist and provide support to Graduates in their initial transition from student to practicing novice Nurse.
- Assist the Graduate in consolidating their knowledge, clinical practice, leadership, communication and teamwork skills in a supportive and flexible learning environment that is responsive to their needs
Assessment is based on the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) National Competency Standards for Registered / Enrolled Nurses.
Objective of Flinders Private Hospital Graduate Program
At the completion of the program, the Graduate will have consolidated their knowledge and met their responsibilities as a first level practitioner and be ready to move on to the advanced beginner level of knowledge & skill.
About the Graduate Program
Flinders Private Hospital’s Graduate Program is a 12-month clinical program, commencing in February each year. Mid-year intakes or employment outside of this identified time frame may be considered.
The Graduate Program includes:
- Hospital & program orientation
- Unit orientation for each clinical rotation
- Professional development study days with a strong clinical focus
- Access to an online professional development education tool
- Varying clinical experiences with unit rotations
The Graduate Program provides support:
- On-site Graduate Coordinator, Clinical Educators, Nurse Unit Managers and Clinical Nurses and Preceptors
- Ongoing peer support from clinical staff
Performance review
- Informal - ongoing verbal feedback
- Formal - performance appraisals
Program structure
General stream
The general stream graduate program includes rotations across the following areas:
- Medical
- Surgical
- Oncology
- Cardiac
- Angiography
- Critical Care
All positions are permanent contracts and may be offered as part time (minimum FTE 0.8) or full time.
Perioperative stream
The perioperative stream graduate program includes rotations across the following areas:
- Theatre (scrub / scout)
- Anaesthetics
- Recovery
- Day Ward
